Is the time you spend in your car, with your
children enjoyable? Does time on the road mean fun and games for you and
your family? Even every day errands can provide effective quality time with
preschool and school-aged children.
One game to play to pass the time on a road trip is "Alpha Signs." Players
can compete or collaborate to locate each letter of the alphabet in order,
using only signs that are in a fixed location (no letters can be used off
of trucks or cars). For instance, player A might call out the A in Mason.
Then player B might call out the B in Cracker Barrel and the C in Cracker
and so on all the way to Z.
Use a different color for each state and
b) color in the state for each plate you see
this can be competitive
if you wish: children can compete to see who gets the map of the US colored
in first.
